Dr. Suzanne Amadi specializes in evidenced-based treatments involving mindfulness and cognitive-behavioral interventions. She is adept at providing these services to help treat an array of emotional and behavioral problems. She has worked in helping clients cope depression, anxiety, trauma, self-esteem, stress and adjustment, anger, and self-harm behaviors. Dr. Amadi works with both youth and adults, and strives to help her clients live a more fulfilling and meaningful life.

Training

Dr. Suzanne Amadi received her bachelor of science degree in psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi. She completed her master's and PhD in clinical psychology at the Mississippi State University (MSU) in Starkville, MS. Dr. Amadi's research has focused on exploring factors associated with self-and other-directed aggression. After internship, Dr. Amadi moved to Los Angeles for a postdoctoral fellowship in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) at Harbor UCLA Medical Center. Dr. Amadi currently works as a licensed clinical psychologist for the Long Beach VA Healthcare System where she provides assessment and therapy services to veterans.


General Approach

Dr. Amadi uses an inter-personally warm approach when interacting with clients. She also acknowledges the relevancy of culture and identity, when these factors are highlighted by her clients. She finds a balance between using a collaborative and directive approach when providing structured evidenced based care, while using the client's values and goals as a guiding post for their plan of treatment.
