YFI Founder and Clinical Director, Dr. Marcus Rodriguez, first learned how to do therapy in Mandarin during his master’s program at Peking University.
Now, he is regularly providing clinical training and consultation to dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) teams across China. This week, he consulted with over a dozen DBT teams at hospitals across the country, including Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Shenzhen, Chongqing, Tianjin, Suzhou, and Chengdu. Many of these are the same teams he trained several years ago as the lead clinical consultant of a 13-site randomized control trial (RCT) examining the efficacy of DBT skills groups in inpatient hospital settings in China.
DBT continues to be a life-saving treatment for many individuals facing serious mental health challenges.
Dr. Rodriguez expressed deep gratitude to his first academic mentor, Dr. Mingyi Qian of Peking University. When they first met to discuss the possibility of him joining her lab, she told him she imagined a moment like this might one day happen.
“The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.” — William Arthur Ward
