Super Joey Foundation is a nonprofit close to Marcus Rodriguez, PhD, and his family. For Marcus’s birthday, YFI is helping raise support for the foundation and its Meals of Love program.
In 2015, Marcus lived at the Ronald McDonald House for five months while his son Caleb received neurological and rehabilitative care at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
During that time, Marcus ate some of the saddest meals of his life there. He also received so much love.
That is where Marcus met Jason and Amy. Their son Joey was fighting cancer, and their families became friends during one of the darkest seasons of their lives.
Later that year, Joey passed away. Jason and Amy created Super Joey Foundation in his memory. Marcus was honored to join them as a founding board member.
Super Joey Foundation and Meals of Love
When a child is critically ill, even basic tasks can feel impossible. Cooking dinner may be one of them.
For the past 10 years, Super Joey Foundation volunteers have provided hundreds of Meals of Love to families at Ronald McDonald Houses across the United States.
In that setting, a meal is not just food. It is comfort. It is respite. Most of all, it reminds families that someone sees what they are carrying.
Honoring Marcus’s Birthday With Giving
For Marcus’s birthday this year, he is raising $2,500 for Super Joey Foundation. The goal is to honor Joey’s memory and provide comfort to families going through some of the hardest seasons of their lives.
This fundraiser also gives Marcus a way to return some of the love his family received during their own time at the Ronald McDonald House.
We invite the YFI community to learn more, donate, or share the campaign with others who may want to support families facing serious childhood illness.

Family Support During Medical Crisis
At YFI, we understand that mental health is shaped by more than individual coping skills. Family stress, medical trauma, uncertainty, community support, culture, and access to care all matter.
When families face illness, anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, self-harm, suicide risk, ADHD, or major life transitions, connection and support can make a profound difference.
YFI provides evidence-based mental health care for youth, young adults, and families in Pacific Palisades, Malibu, Manhattan Beach, Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, and Beverly Hills. Our team offers comprehensive DBT, parent coaching, skills training, and coordinated care for clients who need more support.
